Cremation Ashes set inside handmade crystal Oval Paperweight.

I make these myself. I only make one order at a time, placing the ashes into a metal tray, then gathering the molten glass and first adding any colours you have chosen. When I have melted these to the surface of the glass, I reheat the glass then pick up a small amount of ashes, (about half a teaspoon full) for a paperweight, but need a bit more to make sure I have enough, returning any left over with your order. I then mix the ashes and colour together in my Glory hole at about 1180 degrees C into swirls and patterns. I then cool the first part down to about 650degrees and gather molten 1120degrees glass over the top encasing the ashes inside. I then hand-shape and make this into your chosen piece, whether it be a paperweight, candle holder, heart paperweight, small Vortex vase or even a heart shaped sculpture.

I assure you, your chosen piece will be made with the upmost respect and passion as I have a serious love for glassmaking and making people happy using the skills I have been lucky enough to learn and share.

Hand-blown Glass Ashes Memorials

Stuart Wiltshire has been a glass artist for over 27 years now. His passion is creating unique hand blown commissioned glass lighting chandeliers and distinctive features for interior and exterior commercial spaces and private residences.

His fresh and innovative approach to the art of glass blowing is overwhelming. He begins with meticulous planning in finding creative solutions to designing hot glass, not only paying attention to colour combinations, but also to the texture of the glass itself, then executing the project in the hot shop, creating the reality of the challenge presented by the client.

We currently enjoy making glass pieces with Cremation ashes as it seems to make people so happy, commissioning a piece of glass art with their loved one's ashes preserved inside, giving the piece much more meaning to them personally.

Stuart's hot glass studio is based in the tourist seaside town of Weymouth Dorset on the south coast of England where visitors to the hot shop can watch him & his son making/blowing vases, vessels, glass lighting, art sculptures, awards & presentation pieces. Stuart has been commissioned by a diverse range of clients ranging from architects to artists, interior designers and glassware manufacturers.

Stuart's glass hot shop and gallery can be found on the High Street, Weymouth a short stroll from the harbour bridge. There you will find a wide selection of art glass for sale in the form of bowls, vases, vessels, sculptures and handmade animals, plus you can walk in and commission Stuart Wiltshire Glass for beautiful unique hand casting impressions of your family members that will be available for collection or postage just 24 hours later.

Biography

Stuart Wiltshire, first began his career at Dartington Crystal in Devon during 1996 due to his father being a furnace man there. It was there that Stuart fell in love with the art of glass making instantly and practised daily alongside the masters. He then moved to Sweden to work for Orrefors, widely known as the home of glass blowing, where he worked with some extremely skilled and talented master glass makers who inspired him even more. Stuart then returned to the south west of England to further his knowledge of glassblowing skills, working alongside several other master glass blowers & various other studios before opening his current glass workshop in Weymouth, Dorset.

Joshua Wiltshire, first began after leaving school at 16. We started him on an In-House NVQ through Yeovil college where he went on to win NVQ student of the year. He now spends his time assisting his dad and is learning to run the family business. Any spare time is spent practicing & honing his own skills & techniques.

Returns and Breakages

RETURNS AND REFUNDS

We offer the finest handblown art glass creations. Hand blown glass will never be identical, only similar, as it is impossible to recreate an identical piece. Handblown glass may reveal slight imperfections, in the form of air bubbles, which have become trapped when blowing the glass, or pontil and hand tool marks, glass pattern and colour irregularities, or even a slightly asymmetrical form. These irregularities reveal that a skilled human hand produced the glassware, rather than a mass production machine.

Please remember that insubstantial variations in shape, size, colour compared to the catalogue photograph or art displayed in the studio gallery are not production defects, but are typical of the handcrafted production of Stuart Wiltshire glass.

All pre-ordered commissions are non-returnable as each creation is specially made for the individual customer. Each piece is unique and unrepeatable and no two pieces are ever identical.

BREAKAGE

Every creation travels protected securely in recycled boxes and "Fragile" marked packaging. Receiving a broken creation is, therefore, a very rare occurrence, although it is not impossible to avoid an occasional breakage while in transit, due to the nature of the product. If you have received what appears to be a damaged package, please contact us in the first instance before unwrapping the package for further instructions. If you have unwrapped your package and found the item broken inside, please also contact us right away.
